Women Leadership | #26
Hi friends!
What I Am Up To
This week I was speaking on the Women Leadership panel, which was held as a part of the internal training for female leaders.
First of all, that was crazy and amazing to have a live speaking event again. I expected to get nervous due to a lack of recent practice and constant online participation over the last two years - but I did not! It was so great to be engaged into a meaningful discussion with real human beings and not just to talk to a screen full of muted and cam off profiles.
Second, I was asked some great questions about my career journey as a woman; my perspective on intercultural difference as I work daily with Mexicans and Americans but have experience in Europe, Middle East and Asia; about challenges that I had to overcome as a foreigner in Mexico, woman in machista culture, first time manager, and a mom; how I dealt with a feedback about not being aggressive enough and so on.
So valuable to see what draws attention of others in your experience and where they find valuable lessons.
Digital Workplace Thoughts
In highly hierarchical organizations there is a massive flow of data/information/knowledge that goes both directions - top down and bottom up.
But it is "filtered" at every single point of contact - from senior director to director to senior manager to manager to assistant manager to individual contributor. Same upwards.
It is a natural process for individuals to be selective to avoid information overload. Data/information/knowledge also gets "translated" to become more actionable for the next audience. Plus how much each individual shares depends on a number of personal characteristics, motivation, personal and business goals.
However, if there is no formalized process and criteria for managing critical data/information/knowledge - which means capturing, sharing, applying, and updating these critical assets - then organization creates silos, reduces transparency and clarity, and as a result reduces overall efficiency (while impacting the performance and competitive advantage).
That’s All for Now
