Día de Muertos | #24
Hi friends!
What I Am Up To
Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos) is one of the most significative and beautiful days in Mexico. Today, on Saturday 29th of October, we had our famous parade. Here is my best shot:
Every year more and more international visitors come to Mexico over this magical period - which is, honestly, a great idea!
I shared a couple of recommendations what to do in Mexico City on my blog in case you plan to visit 🙂
Cultural Lens
Since I visited Cambodia, I was wondering why their houses were built on the legs. Results that these "legs" are called stilts and they help to protect the houses against the floods and improve air circulation.
While googling, I came across an article in The New York Times titled "In Cambodia, a House With Legs". It tells a story about Darryl Collins, an Australian art historian, who bought a classic wooden house on stilts in a distanced location in Cambodia, pulled it apart with the help of 20 carpenters and moved the resulted 50 tons of pieces on ferries to a different town. Reconstruction took 10 months to be completed. Fascinating, what determination and appreciation of true craftsmanship can do!
